2008 Ford Fusion Coolant Reservoir Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir on 2.3L, 3.0L, and 3.5L engines on 2008 Ford Fusion?
A: Before conducting maintenance on the coolant reservoir of 2.3L, 3.0L and 3.5L engines ensure the engine temperature is low because opening the cooling system presents risks of serious injuries from steam pressure and hot liquid. The release of cooling system pressure starts when users twist the pressure relief cap counter-clockwise by one half turn before removing the cap. Hose clamp pliers should secure the lower degas bottle hose while a suitable suction device draws coolant from the bottle. Remove any wiring retainer surrounding the degas bottle before disconnecting both hoses which connect the radiator and degas bottle. Place all components aside. The degas bottle-to-thermostat housing hose requires disconnecting for 3.5L engines followed by its placement aside. The next step requires users to remove the nut from the lower degas bottle together with its bolt then detach the bottle from its installation. The fasteners must be tightened to 9 Nm (80 lb-inch) while following the opposite installation process for the degas bottle. Follow the procedure by adding the specified coolant mixture to reach the proper fill level inside of the degas bottle.
