2009 Ford Fusion Coolant Reservoir Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir, specifically the degas bottle for 2.3L, 3.0L, and 3.5L engines on 2009 Ford Fusion?
A: Service and repair of the coolant reservoir degas bottle for 2.3L, 3.0L and 3.5L engines requires an engine cooldown before opening the cooling system due to avoided risks of severe personal injury from pressurized steam and hot liquid. The cooling system pressure will dissipate by turning the pressure relief cap counterclockwise one half rotation before you remove it. You should use hose clamp pliers to secure the lower degas bottle hose before using a suitable suction device to siphon coolant from the degas bottle. Disconnect the wiring retainer from the degas bottle before disconnecting the degas bottle-to-radiator hose which should be placed aside. The degas bottle-to-thermostat housing hose can be removed from 3.5L engines before placing it to the side. Disconnect the lower degas bottle hose and remove its nut, bolt and degas bottle sequence. The fasteners for installing the degas bottle should be tightened up to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) before carrying out the removal steps in reverse order. Complete the degas bottle filling process by adding the essential coolant mixture according to the specified level.
