2008 Ford Mustang Air Bag Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Air Bag Control Module on 2008 Ford Mustang?
A: A prerequisite for Restraints Control Module (RCM) servicing or repair includes checking if the vehicle survived a crash and performing RCM and impact sensor mounting area inspections for damage followed by proper restoration. The RCM requires installation of its proper replacement to eliminate false diagnostic trouble codes from appearing yet the air bag warning light becomes visible when removing the RCM fuse while the ignition switch remains ON. This condition is expected to happen. The SRS system requires no faults and complete functionality before returning the vehicle to customers while repairs can only happen through new part installation. Start by disabling SRS functionality followed by the removal of shift lever bezels unless your model has them together with the two console floor panel screws for the floor console finish panel. To start apply the parking brake then remove the finish panel along with disconnecting the electrical connector from the powerpoint and audio input jack before removing the two center stack wings. The operator should first relocate their floor console mat aside before using two front floor console screws to remove the mat and floor console nuts which enable console movement from the instrument panel. Begin by removing six screws from the instrument panel center finish panel while disconnecting its electrical connectors through prying. To disconnect the large RCM electrical connector, pinch the thumb tab and rotate the connector position assurance lever backward before extracting the connector. Remove the small RCM electrical connector while disconnecting the attachment for the RCM and then proceed to take out the RCM-securing three nuts. To avoid incorrect operation always tighten the RCM and impact sensor fasteners up to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). The small RCM electrical connector installation requires the large connector position assurance lever to be free of all contact before final connection. Use constant pressure instead of force when positioning the large RCM electrical wiring connector to protect it from damage. Seating should be achieved by operating the lever. The system will accept the large RCM electrical wiring connector when you ensure the thumb tab is secure. Reinstall the instrument panel center finish panel by using six screws while putting the floor console into position and securing it with two nuts and mat. After reattaching the floor console finish panel with its two screws users can operate the parking brake. The user must repower the SRS after installing the shift lever bezel (if equipped).
