2008 Ford Mustang Fuel Rail Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the fuel rail on 2008 Ford Mustang?
A: Service operations for the fuel rail should start by releasing system pressure and disconnecting battery ground. The right side procedure starts by taking off the wiring harness retainer from the valve cover stud bolt then placing it aside to disconnect three fuel injector electrical connectors. Take off the two bolts from right side fuel rail supply tubes before installing new screws at 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Special fuel-resistant O-ring seals must be used instead of tossing out original O-ring seals that protect the fuel rail supply tubes. Secure the right side fuel rail with its two bolts at 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) while installation to later remove three fuel injectors which require replacement of their old O-ring seals. First disconnect the vacuum hose combined with the electrical connector of the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor on the left-hand side. The wiring harness retainer from the valve cover stud bolt also needs removal while using pliers to disconnect the three fuel injector electrical connectors. Installation of the new fuel rail supply tube requires bolt tightening to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) before installation. The procedure mandates using fuel-resistant O-ring seals because original O-ring seals need disposal. To begin the process disconnect the two bolts that fasten the left side rail using 23 Nm torque (17 lb-ft) while installation. Then uninstall the three fuel injectors from their positions along with removal of the original O-ring seals. Finish the installation by following the reverse removal steps while applying engine oil to new O-ring seals before their installation.
