2008 Ford Mustang Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on 2008 Ford Mustang?
A: A clean working environment should always be maintained before handling the intake manifold because any foreign matter can lead to engine failure. Begin the intake manifold service by disposing the air cleaner outlet pipe followed by spark plug wire release from ignition coil along with detachment of the RH spark plug wire retainer from the intake manifold. After unhooking the two bolts on each end of the ignition coil bracket the technician should place the coil assembly in a safe area for later use. First disconnect the electrical connection to the EGR system module together with its tube and remove both the brake booster vacuum hose and vacuum tube of fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor and vapor tube of the intake manifold and the PCV tube. The procedure starts by removing eight bolts that secure the intake manifold after disconnecting the throttle position sensor and throttle body electrical connectors and the knock sensor electrical connector retainer. Installation requires service of all sealing surfaces with replacement gaskets before the intake manifold is placed into position. Eight bolts need to be installed by applying 10 Nm (89 lb-in) of torque in the official sequence. First, you need to connect the throttle position sensor along with connecting the throttle body electrical connectors and install the knock sensor electrical connector retainer before you install the PCV tube. The installation requires connecting the vapor tube with the vacuum tube leading to the fuel rail pressure sensor and temperature sensor and the brake booster vacuum pipe to the intake manifold. Begin with connecting the EGR system module tube while tightening it up to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft) and then connect the EGR system module electrical connector. The ignition coil assembly should be placed correctly while tightening the M8 bolt to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft) and the M12 bolt to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft). The final step includes tightening the two upper ignition coil bracket bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Then attach the RH spark plug wire retainer and reconnect the RH spark plug wires to the ignition coil before reattaching the air cleaner outlet pipe.
