- Q: How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Ford Taurus?A: The first step before removing and installing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) requires performing module configuration retrieval exactly as explained in the Programmable Module Installation procedure. Start by taking off the cowl panel grille after which you should disconnect the three PCM electrical connectors. You need to remove the PCM by taking out its two securing nuts first and after that pull out the module from its place. Place the PCM into position before fastening it with the two nuts to a torque of 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Connect the three PCM electrical connectors to install the cowl panel grille.
