2008 Lincoln Mark LT Exhaust Pipe Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Intermediate Exhaust Pipe on 2008 Lincoln Mark LT?
A: Before working on the exhaust intermediate pipe service inspect that the vehicle is in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Moving the exhaust Y-pipe coupling toward the intermediate pipe allows you to place it over the pipe before reconnecting it. The installation requires you to use new exhaust intermediate pipe and Torca(R) clamp assembly for the pipe-to-muffler connection when necessary. To extract the exhaust intermediate pipe from the vehicle first separate the exhaust Torca(R) clamp both at the muffler and tailpipe and then remove the tube from its position. Position the exhaust intermediate pipe with Torca(R) clamp assembly beside muffler and tailpipe before pushing out the assembly until the hanger bracket collar reaches the isolator. Scrub the exhaust clamp area free from any surface rust using an abrasive pad. The inlet pipe on the muffler and tailpipe assembly must have its button fully positioned into the exhaust intermediate pipe L-notch. Check the clearance between the RH catalytic converter and exhaust intermediate pipe to ensure it meets specifications whereas the maximum approved distance remains 5 mm (0.20 inch). Start by degreasing and cleaning the exhaust coupling surface of rust and proceed to slide it over the exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter button before tightening the bolts according to this sequence: Begin with the front nut at 47 Nm (35 lb-ft), continue with the back nut at 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) followed by another 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) on the front nut. The procedure requires a new Torca(R) clamp assembly and exhaust intermediate pipe so you should install both before tightening the exhaust Torca(R) clamp to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). Verify that all exhaust system isolators show zero load reading before starting the exhaust system alignment operation.
