2008 Lincoln MKX Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core on 2008 Lincoln MKX?
A: The first service step when maintaining the heater core requires you to perform a pressure leak test unless leaks were detected. Start by taking out the heater core together with evaporator core housing followed by floor duct screws removal and floor duct desolation. The first step is to extract the heater core tube dash panel seal after which you should unfasten the heater tube bracket screw and remove the heater tube bracket. The technician should first remove five fresh air inlet duct screws followed by the fresh air inlet duct while disconnecting the wire harness from the plenum chamber. Carefully remove the seven screws from the lower facing plenum chamber while maintaining the heater core and evaporator core housing oriented upright toward the plenum chamber. The plenum chamber extraction requires first neatly located removal of both the upper plenum chamber screw and the two plenum chamber clips. Dislodgement of the evaporator core must be avoided throughout this step. The heater core should be handled away from its inlet or outlet tubes in order to avoid damage. Removing the heater core requires holding it by its heater tube connection core-side before extracting half of it out from the plenum chamber. Subsequently grasp the top of the core to complete the removal. A proper inspection of the drain seal and its reinstallation become necessary after you detect that the evaporator core shifted during removal. Reverse the steps of removal to install the heater core.
