Taking proper precautions becomes necessary when rotating the crankshaft or camshafts without timing chains because this method may result in damage to piston valves. Start by removing the camshaft roller followers before continuing to the timing chain removal process. The spacer and camshaft sprocket with the bolt should be detached first before removing each of the 13 camshaft bearing cap bolts and the camshaft bearing cap ladders. Push the cylinder head camshaft outside its housing with extreme caution. Before setting the camshaft onto the cylinder head users must apply clean engine oil to the journals and bearing cap ladders. Tighten the camshaft bearing caps bolts initially loosely and proceed to tighten them based on specified order to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt in two stages by setting the first torque to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) followed by rotating it another 90 degrees (1/4 turn). For the last step install both timing chains and roller followers.
