2008 Lincoln Town Car Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Non-Functional Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2008 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The battery disconnect procedure becomes the first step to service an ignition switch lock cylinder that is non-functioning. You should first detach the tilt wheel handle along with the shank before removing the three screws holding the lower steering column shroud in place. Move on to remove the steering wheel and set the shift selector boot to the side. First unlock the ignition switch lock cylinder by removing its cap before letting loose both tabs to remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver from the steering column. First disconnect the electrical connector then pull out the PATS transceiver from the circuit. You should drill the lock cylinder retaining pin with a 1/8-inch diameter drill bit before breaking loose the ignition lock cylinder by drilling through its central key slot using a 3/8-inch diameter drill. Take out both the ignition lock cylinder together with all drill parings as you inspect the steering column for potential damage before cleaning the area completely. The installation process should begin by reversing all the previous steps for removal.
