    A: A depowering step for servicing and repairing the steering column shaft starts with disablement of the supplemental restraint system (SRS). A steering wheel holding device including Hunter 28-75-1 and its equivalent models will help maintain the wheel facing forward during the maintenance operation. The steering column intermediate shaft must not be allowed to rotate while serviceable to protect the Clock Spring from damage therefore removal and correct positioning of the Clock Spring is needed when intermediate shaft rotation occurs. Start the procedure by removing then discarding the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt before disconnecting the shaft. When reinstalling add a new bolt and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). First secure the two upper steering column shaft bearing nuts by using 11 Nm torque (8 lb-ft) when reinstalling them. Installation of the new bolt requires tightening it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torque value when placing the lower steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt. Recovery the removal steps to put back all components before restarting the SRS operation.
