Begin by removing the bumper cover pin-type retainers and then disconnect the rear parking aid sensor electrical connector when installed and the side marker lamp electrical connector if the vehicle model requires this component. Disconnect the bumper cover from splash shield using the eight pin-type retainers. The Mountaineer contains a bracket which fits on the sheet metal surface starting from the molding's upper border. Lift the front curve of the rear bumper cover vertically before pulling it away from its position. Repeat this step on the rear side. Transfer needed components and install the new bumper cover through the reverse process of removal.
