2008 Mercury Mountaineer Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the right-hand exhaust manifold on 2008 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The right-hand exhaust manifold service requires placing the vehicle in neutral and hoisting it before beginning work. The service starts by taking out the EGR tube after which you remove the four nuts that attach the exhaust manifold to the dual converter Y-pipe before setting the Y-pipe aside. The service of the right-hand exhaust manifold requires removal of six nuts and gasket followed by disposal of both components. The installation process requires non-recovery of the six right-hand exhaust manifold studs along with discarding them. Installation begins with surface flatness inspection of the right-hand exhaust manifold gaskets followed by six new manifold studs installation which should be tightened to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Insert a fresh gasket and fasten it to the right-hand exhaust manifold by using six new nuts reaching 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) torque. Screw the dual converter Y-pipe back into place using four nuts which need tightening up to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The EGR tube should also be reinstalled at this time.
