2009 Ford Crown Victoria Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2009 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: The vacuum brake booster service starts with disconnecting both the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector and brake booster check valve. When reinstalling the two master cylinder brake nuts apply 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) torque force to each. The first step requires disconnecting the wiring harness bracket before setting it away while pulling the brake master cylinder forward toward removal. Uninstall the instrument panel steering column cover from the dashboard. You need to start with dissembling the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch with the brake pedal sitting at rest because extending the switch plungers during removal can harm the bracket. Special attention must be paid to the stoplamp switch removal prior to removing the speed control deactivator switch from the vehicle if it is equipped. Attach the release the brake booster push rod retaining pin cover followed by the retaining pin, washer, bushing, and switch before pulling the booster push rod from the pedal pin. The power brake booster can be separated from the dashboard by removing four brake pedal bracket nuts which should be fastened to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) torque specifications when reinstalling. You should not interact with the brake pedal or manipulate the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch while installation due to the need for the booster push rod to stay attached to the brake pedal at its rest position. After installing the brake booster input rod with correct orientation follow the reversing steps of removal to complete the installation.
