2008 Ford Crown Victoria Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Service and repair of the vacuum brake booster requires users to begin by removing the battery ground cable. The service includes removing both the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector and brake booster check valve. When reinstalling the two brake master cylinder nuts tighten them to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) torque. Start the service by detaching the wiring harness bracket before putting it away and moving the brake master cylinder forward for placement. Uninstall both pin-type retainers before you remove the instrument close-out panel. Penetration damage to the switches can occur if you fail to keep the at-rest brake pedal position during removal of the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch from their bracket while compressing the plungers to allow rotating within the bracket. When equipped with a stoplamp switch remove the device along with the speed control deactivator switch. Start by discarding the brake booster push rod retaining pin cover together with its retaining pin and washer and bushing and switch before you can remove the booster push rod from the pedal pin. To detach the power brake booster escape the four brake pedal bracket nuts with a torque of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) before reapplication. The stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch require installation with the brake pedal at rest position when their corresponding booster push rod remains attached to avoid incorrect adjustment and possible damages. After proper orientation of the brake booster input rod ensure a proper installation by performing the removal steps in reverse order.
