2009 Ford Crown Victoria Brake Pedal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake pedal assembly on 2009 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: The first step to service and repair the brake pedal assembly requires using Hunter(R) 28-75-1 as a steering wheel holding device to stabilize the wheel at the straight-ahead position. Serious service and repair of the brake pedal assembly requires the removal of the instrument panel close-out panel through pushpin extraction followed by counterclockwise lamp rotation. The brake pedal must be in its at-rest position while removing the speed control deactivator switch to avoid switch plunger damage which might occur if attempts are made to remove the switch when plungers are not compressed. The procedure starts by dropping the booster push rod retaining pin cover and retaining pin so the technician can slide out the stoplight switch with washer and bushing and push rod from the brake pedal pin. The brake pedal bracket bolt needs removal followed by tightening it to a torque of 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) when reinstalled. Detach the adjustable brake pedal drive cable from its assembly and stoplight switch harness from the pedal bracket for disconnection. When working on the steering column shaft avoid any rotation movement since it can harm the Clock Spring installation; you need to recenter the Clock Spring if the shaft has already rotated. Replace the old steering column shaft bolt by throwing it out and install a fresh bolt which needs to be tightened to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) when mounting it. To reinstall the brake pedal and its bracket keep the four brake pedal bracket nuts tight to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) torque. When installing the brake switch put it in the right direction by placing the closed hole away from the brake pedal arm yet keeping the open hole toward it to protect from any damage. The speed control deactivator switch needs attachment to the brake pedal at its resting position without breaking the brake pedal position to prevent misalignment and avoid damage during installation. Reverse the removal steps while performing a test to ensure proper working of the stoplight.
