2008 Ford Crown Victoria Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Start the service of the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor by depowering the fire suppression system for safety reasons. It is necessary to place the vehicle on a hoist with neutral gear engaged. Lift the drive belt off the A/C compressor pulley after you rotate the tensioner. Then disconnect the accessories for the field coil of the A/C compressor and the CKP sensor. Sever the two wiring harness clips from their nut and after reassembly replace all components with 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque. A/C compressor stud bolts do not need removal because users should loosen them to allow the compressor to slide downward by one inch before tightening them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque. The first step is to loosen and then remove the bolt connecting the CKP sensor but you must tighten this bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) before moving forward. After this remove the sensor itself. Repower the vehicle according to safety instructions if it has a fire suppression system post-installation in order to prevent severe personal harm.
