2009 Ford Edge Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2009 Ford Edge?
A: The service and repair process for battery cables should start with removing the battery tray before continuing. Detach the battery cable body ground terminal by removing its securing nut then place it securely to the side before retightening the nut to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when reinstalling. Follow the procedure to remove the Battery Junction Box (BJB) cable terminal nut before placing it away while adjusting the tightening torque to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The maintenance process starts by removing the starter solenoid terminal cover followed by unbolted removal of the battery cable starter solenoid terminal that requires torque to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). You should first remove the nut from the battery cable starter motor terminal then set it aside while tightening to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) during installation. Remove the bolt fastening the battery cable engine ground terminal before releasing the engine cable locator and reinstall the bolt with a torque requirement of 12 Nm (106 lb-in). The battery cable needs to be pulled off from the intake manifold top followed by unclipping the three battery cable locators from the left-hand valve cover. The generator B+ terminal protective cover needs to be set aside while you remove its connecting nut and place the terminal to the side. During installation you will need to tighten the B+ terminal to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). To replace the battery cables complete the opposite steps of removal and follow the same procedures to reinstall.
