2009 Ford Edge Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2009 Ford Edge?
A: Start maintenance and repairs of the alternator by unplugging the battery from its power source. Commence by taking off the cooling fan then turn the accessory drive belt tensioner to the counterclockwise direction for placing the accessory drive belt in position. First move the generator B+ terminal protective cover to reveal it then remove the fastener while placing the B+ terminal away before tightening the fastener to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). Disconnect the generator electrical connector by removing its pin-type retainer clamp as well as the wiring harness. The removal procedure requires the removal of the generator stud nut that will need a 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque setting for installation. After extracting the generator stud users must secure it with a torque of 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstall. After removing the RH fender splash shield, loosen the generator bolt followed by generator removal where the bolt needs to be tightened to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) upon finishing installation. The reverse order of removal steps should be followed to finish the process.
