2009 Ford Edge Seat Motor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power seat motor and seat recliner motor on 2009 Ford Edge?
A: Service and repair of the power seat motor and seat recliner motor requires the air bag warning indicator to become visible by removing the proper Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse when the ignition switch is in ON position. The vehicle will not return to the customer unless the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has been checked and shows no operational issues or faults. Before removing power lumbar seats you must unlock the tension on the power lumbar cable. Start by removing the front seat followed by the cushion side shield extraction process which includes manual lumbar cable tension release for equipped models and two clip disconnection to remove the manual handle and then unfasten screws to free the shield. Start by taking out the cushion side shield screws before using your hand to raise and release the retainer at the rear and finally moving it forward to disconnect the retainer. First disconnect the seat control switch electric connector then remove the cushion side shield from the vehicle. You can remove the recliner side shield by taking off the screw and scrivet and pulling it out from its place. You need to start by releasing the two pin-type retainers at the bottom of the backrest trim panel and sliding it down to expose the upper clips and then turn it to free the middle clips before finishing its removal. Detach both J-clips which are attached to the backrest trim cover from the frame of the backrest before gently pulling the backrest foam pad away from its position. The procedure to remove a recliner motor begins with removing the clip from the torque shaft on the recliner motor side followed by sliding out the torque shaft until you can remove the recliner motor bolt that requires 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque for installation. The last step involves disconnecting and removing the recliner motor followed by performing installation through the reverse order of steps.
