2009 Ford Explorer Power Steering Cooler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Cooler on 2009 Ford Explorer?
A: A hoist with neutral transmission should be used to position the vehicle as the first step before servicing or repairing the power steering cooler. Use your hands to detach the cooler from the fluid reservoir by unfastening the clamp. Start by removing two screws and loosening pin-type retainers on the left-hand front splash shield before taking out the lower radiator air deflector through pushpin removal. Liberate the power steering cooler hose bracket bolt as well as both hose braces but tighten it to 18 Nm (159 lb-in) right before reassembly. The steering line clamp plate needs its nut removed according to the installation requirement which requires tightening it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Turn the steering line clamp plate to cut the power steering cooler from the steering gear while removing its O-ring seal during the process. New O-ring seals must be added whenever power steering pressure and cooler line detaches from the steering gear. The power steering system needs to be filled after finishing the installation by reversing the step-by-step removal procedure.
