2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Thermostat Housing Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat housing on a 4.0L SOHC engine on 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Starting the process of thermostat housing service on a 4.0L SOHC engine requires draining all the engine cooling system fluid first. First disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector then remove the clamp from the upper radiator hose and then the heater hose after removing its clamp. Tilt and lower down the bypass hose clamp before releasing it from the hose. First remove the thermostat housing securing bolts before you can separate the housing from its position. Use 11 Nm as the torque when tightening bolts on the new thermostat housing. You should examine the thermostat housing O-ring seal because if it needs replacement use a new one instead. Reverse the steps of removal to finish installing the component.
