2009 Ford F-150 Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2009 Ford F-150?
A: Service and repair of the radiator requires A/C system recovery and a cooling system drainage first. The service begins by removing the cooling fan shroud before disconnecting the overflow hose as well as lower radiator hose and releasing the clamp to detach the power steering cooler hose which you should set aside. Unfasten the bolts securing the expansion tank to lower Air Cleaner half then remove the compressor-to-condenser tubes by removing their bolt and nut while discarding the gaskets and O-ring seals. First disconnect the right-hand pushpin retainers for three air deflectors and two left-hand pushpins from the condenser before removing the three lower air deflectors from the bumper pushpins and right-hand and left-hand frame pushpin retainers. The Secondary Latches securing the transmission cooler tube need removal which enables the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool to disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Proceed with disconnecting the horn electrical connector before removing the wiring harness and ambient temperature sensor retainers then placing this wiring harness to one side. The radiator/condenser core assembly will separate after removing its two bolts. Then the radiator needs to disconnect from the condenser core by releasing the lock tabs while also disconnecting the two transmission fluid cooler hoses. Installation begins by inserting the condenser core under the radiator locking tabs followed by hose connection before placing the radiator/condenser core assembly on the radiator insulators inside the vehicle. Force the two radiator bolts until they reach 15 Nm (133 lb-in) tightness before you place the wiring harness and join the horn electrical connector and ambient temperature sensor pushpin retainer. Then proceed to link the transmission fluid cooler tubes before fixing the transmission cooler tube secondary latches. Next follow with the frame rail pushpins on both sides before installing condenser pushpin retainers starting from the right and left sides. Finish by installing pushpin retainers at the lower air deflector that mounts to the bumper. First, apply new gasket and O-ring seals to connect the A/C condenser tubes before installing a bolt followed by a nut which should be tightened to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Position the two bolts through the coolant expansion tank/lower ACL half before tightening them to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Then attach the power steering cooler hose to the power steering cooler and install the clamp while attaching the retainer to the radiator. Fit both the lower radiator hose and overflow hose before putting on the cooling fan shroud. The technician needs to complete cooling system plumbing and transmission fluid addendum along with operational checks before performing vacuum and refilling the air conditioning system.
