2009 Ford F-150 Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Radiator Cooling Module on 2009 Ford F-150?
A: Vehicle service requires a hoist setup while it operates in neutral mode and drained cooling system area. Removal of service begins by releasing the two pushpin retainers followed by lifting the lower cooling fan shroud from its position. First drain the cooling system while removing the battery ground connection and evacuating the A/C system. Start by taking out the headlights before detaching the retaining cables of the hood latch and removing the bolts that secure it. Remove the front bumper cover by detaching both the hood latch release handle along with cable before removing it. First disconnect the horn electrical connector before detaching both the wiring harness and ambient temperature sensor retainers and set the wiring harness to the side. Disconnect both electrical connectors of the RH and LH front impact severity sensors while removing their wiring harness retainers before releasing the clamp which frees the upper radiator hose from the radiator. The routing process requires disconnection of the generator battery positive cable together with the electrical connector while removing wiring harness retainers. To work on the fan shroud of 4WD vehicles technicians must remove the vacuum reservoir vacuum hose along with its wiring harness retainer. Additionally they need to disconnect both the vacuum solenoid electrical wires and vacuum lines. During the 2WD process disconnect the wiring harness retainer. Begin by disconnecting the wiring harness retainer and electrical connector of the cooling fan clutch before removing the ACL outlet tube followed by MAF sensor electrical connector removal and finally removing the ACL cover and element. Unfasten the six pushpins and upper radiator air deflector before using the clamp to free the power steering cooler hose and its retention piece. A technician should detach the wiring harness retainer from the power steering fluid reservoir stud bolt before removing the bolt to move the reservoir to the side. The first step is to cut the block heater tie strap when it exists. Fill up a plastic bin with cutting oil beforehand since you will have to discard all O-ring seals and A/C tubes connected to the A/C condenser by removing its bolt alongside the necessary nut. Start by gently removing the four retaining tabs present on the Power Distribution Box (PDB) and taking the PDB along with wiring harness aside. The technician begins by unfastening the lower radiator hose and overflow hose from the radiator followed by stripping the three front air deflector-to-bumper pushpins and the two LH and RH air deflector-to-frame rail pushpins. First disconnect the transmission cooler tube latch assemblies by using the transmission cooler line disconnect tool before removing the power steering cooler-to-power steering fluid reservoir hose. Use the tool to uninstall six cooling module bolts before removing the cooling module. Position the cooling module inside the vehicle and secure it with six bolts that need to be tightened to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). The power steering cooler-to-power steering fluid reservoir hose needs connection together with transmission cooler tube installation to radiator components and transmission cooler tube latch assembly installation. Mount both LH and RH air deflector-to-frame rail pushpins together with the three front air deflector-to-bumper pushpins while connecting the radiator overflow hose and lower radiator hose by securing it with a spring clip. Connect the PDB retaining tabs then attach the LH and RH wiring retainers to their proper locations. Fitting new A/C tube O-ring seals and joining the A/C tubes to the A/C condenser requires installation of a bolt and nut which should be tightened to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Install the block heater tie strap when possible before positioning the power steering fluid reservoir then fastening the stud bolt to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). The wiring harness retainer should be fastened to the power steering fluid reservoir stud bolt followed by connecting the power steering cooler hose and installing both components with their respective retainers. Set all equipment by placing the upper radiator air deflector with six pushpins along with the ACL element and cover and by connecting the MAF sensor electrical connector with the ACL outlet tube. The wiring harness retainer should be installed for 2WD vehicles while 4WD vehicles require connection of vacuum solenoid electrical and vacuum connectors as well as vacuum reservoir hose and wiring harness retainer to the fan shroud. The wiring harness should be positioned correctly and the wiring harness retainer along with the electrical connector should be joined before the generator battery positive cable attachment with a tightening torque of 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Begin by connecting the upper radiator hose then install its clamp while mounting the radiator hose retainer on the upper cooling fan shroud. Complete the electrical connection of front impact sensors between both sides, install the wiring harness pushpin retainers while attaching the harness retainer to the RH radiator support area and connect the horn sensors and ambient temperature sensors. Place the front bumper cover correctly while fastening the hood latch release handle and cable before installing the bolt. Fix the hood latch while securing the two bolts with 25 Nm torque (18 lb-ft) before placing the RH and LH hood latch cable pushpin retainers alongside the headlights. Connect the ground cable of the battery while positioning the lower cooling fan shroud down and fill the cooling system after installing two new pushpin retainers and recharging the air conditioning system.
