2009 Ford F-150 Vapor Canister Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Should You Service the Vapor Canister on 2009 Ford F-150?
A: A technician should disconnect the battery ground cable to avoid highly flammable mixture ignition before servicing the Evaporative Emission Control Canister. Place the vehicle in the NEUTRAL gear before mounting it on a hoist. The service process requires you to remove the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor along with the vapor tube assembly from the EVAP canister and the fuel tank supply tube as well as front fuel supply tube quick connect couplings. A service procedure requires disconnecting the front vapor tube from the EVAP canister and removing the vapor hose from the EVAP canister vent solenoid before releasing the center fuel supply tube from the frame. The installation of the EVAP canister assembly requires disconnecting the two pushpin retainers along with the vent solenoid electrical connector before removing four bolts which need to be torqued at 13 Nm (115 lb-in) during assembly. Put the canister assembly on a workbench after which separate the center vapor tube using quick connect coupling while removing the center fuel supply tube by opening its retainers. The front bracket must be stretched to its maximum forward extent before the five bolts securing the EVAP canister assembly brackets are removed for tightening to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The last step includes evacuating the canister vent solenoid together with the dust box from the EVAP canister assembly. The repair sequence runs in the reverse order to finish the work. A leak test of the Evaporative Emission System needs to be performed for confirming system functionality after installation completes.
