2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC System on 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: You must start the suction accumulator HVAC system servicing process by recovering all refrigerant. Begin HVAC system suction accumulator service by disconnecting the A/C cycling switch electrical connector and removing the right-hand fender splash shield. First disconnect the suction accumulator outlet fitting by removing its nut while keeping the fitting tight at 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Remove and discard both seals (O-ring and gasket). Follow the installation procedure by retightening suction accumulator nuts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Separate the evaporator outlet fitting by disconnecting it while discarding both seals from the O-rings. Execute the removal procedure in reverse order for installation and use new gasket seals and O-ring seals before applying the correct amount of clean PAG oil to the refrigerant system. The refrigerant system requires evacuation and pressure testing along with addition of refrigerant before completion. The replacement of a suction accumulator should only occur when actual physical contamination evidence reveals itself from compressor failure or when damage occurs through leaks or moisture contamination after an entire refrigerant loss results in extended system pressure equilibrium against atmosphere pressure. System repairs should take place only after all refrigerant pressure has been removed from the system because a new suction accumulator becomes unnecessary.
