2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Vapor Canister Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Begin Evaporative Emission Control Canister service only after setting the vehicle to NEUTRAL position on a hoist and removing the battery ground cable to stop potentially flammable mixture ignitions. When the vehicle has a fuel tank in its center position remove the spare tire to reach the EVAP canister situated above the wheel storage compartment. Detach all EVAP canister assembly tubes and hoses which also include purge valve vapor tube and fresh air hose and fuel tank vapor tube. The procedure requires aft-of-axle and additional fuel tank equipped vehicles to eliminate the fuel tank vapor tube and EVAP dust separator hose from each vehicle. Start by disconnecting the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector followed by unscrewing its four retaining bolts from the assembly which needs placement on a clean work surface. Midship fuel tank equipped vehicles require users to first remove their canister vent solenoid and dust separator assembly followed by the two bolts and screws holding the canister assembly to the bracket. Disassembly of the EVAP canister assembly requires unfastening any clamps and the unconnection of the EVAP filter assembly tube. To perform the installation place the EVAP canister into the bracket mount and then connect the EVAP filter assembly tube before installing the clamp if necessary. Midship fuel tank equipped vehicles should have their screws installed first followed by bolts to safeguard against canister damage while tightening screws to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) and bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The vent solenoid and dust separator assembly should be reconnected followed by canister and bracket assembly installation on the vehicle using four bolts that must be tightened to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). Re-establish connections for the FPDM electrical connector along with the fuel vapor vent hose and fuel tank vapor tube only if they were disconnected before. After fixing the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector connect the purge valve vapor tube then the fuel tank vapor tube before finishing with the fresh air hose. Control the Evaporative Emission System Leak Test by reconnecting the battery ground cable.
