2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty Vapor Canister Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: The first step to serve and fix the evaporative emission control canister needs the vehicle in NEUTRAL mode on a hoist with a disconnected ground cable from the battery to remove electrical sparks that could ignite fuel vapors. When the fuel tank is positioned in the midship position the EVAP canister and bracket assembly must be removed because it operates above the spare tire. The EVAP canister purge valve vapor tube and fuel tank vapor tube quick connect couplings should be detached first, then disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector. In addition to midship fuel tank and aft-of-axle and auxiliary fuel tank vehicles, users must disconnect both fuel tank vapor tube and fuel vapor vent hose from the dust separator assembly. Disconnection of the fuel pump driver module (FPDM) electrical connector should be performed if required. Hook up the disconnected EVAP canister and bracket assembly to a clean working surface while you remove the four securing bolts. With the EVAP canister assembly of the midship fuel tank vehicle you must first remove the solenoid with dust separator portion and then remove the two screws and two bolts that fasten the canister to its bracket. The EVAP filter assembly tube quick connect coupling should be removed with the clamps and the EVAP canister assembly should be taken off the bracket only after disconnecting the EVAP filter assembly tube quick connect coupling for aft-of-axle and auxiliary fuel tank equipped vehicles. To install the EVAP canister place it into its bracket while connecting the EVAP filter assembly tube after possible clamp installation. During midship fuel tank equipped vehicle installation, secure both screws first followed by the two bolts to protect the canister then torque them evenly to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Secure the vehicle by installing the canister assembly to its bracket position via four bolds which should be tightened to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft). Reattach the FPDM electrical connector and another quickly connect the fuel vapor vent hose before fastening the fuel tank vapor tube quick connector coupling. As the last step, you should connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and EVAP canister purge valve vapor tube along with the battery ground. Execute an EVAP system leak test together with the EVAP repair verification drive cycle.
