2009 Ford Flex Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2009 Ford Flex?
A: The primary step for repairing the alternator starts with battery disconnection. Start by putting both the B+ terminal and the nut aside after you remove the B+ nut and position the generator protective cover to the side. Disconnect the generator electrical connector while moving aside the harness. The accessory drive belt requires removal from the generator when the cooling fan assembly is detached from the protrusions for the generator and the accessory drive belt tensioner is tuned to loosen the belt. First remove the upper generator nut along with the stud and next loosen up the lower generator bolt before taking out the generator. You should first place the generator onto position and then use your hands to tighten its lower bolt. Fasten the generator stud at 8 Nm (71 lb-in) while the generator nut requires 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. The lower generator bolt should be torqued to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). The accessory drive belt tensioner rotations will enable you to fix the belt on the generator unit before reinstalling the cooling fan assembly. The operator needs to connect the generator electrical connector and install the generator B+ terminal before tightening the B+ terminal nut to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). Finally, reconnect the battery cable.
