2009 Ford Flex Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Knock Sensor (KS) on 2009 Ford Flex?
A: The Knock Sensor service starts with removing the thermostat housing before taking out the lower intake manifold and coolant tube while discarding the O-ring seal. Disable the KS electrical connector before removing the two bolts that fasten the KS. Before installing the new KS users should tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (177 lb-in) and apply clean engine coolant to the new O-ring seal. To finish the installation worked in the opposite direction of the removal steps. The coolant requirements differ between vehicles made before (Motorcraft® Premium Gold Engine Coolant) and after (Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant) January 19, 2009 because their mixture can reduce anti-corrosion protection and harm engine and cooling system components.
