    A: Service of the catalytic converter should begin with the vehicle situated on a hoist in NEUTRAL gear. Having a proper splint in place should support the exhaust flexible pipe to prevent damaging curvatures from developing. The procedure for PZEV Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles includes removing two nuts that connect the catalytic converter to the exhaust flexible pipe and discarding both parts along with the gasket. The service of a non-PZEV catalytic converter requires removing two nuts securing it to the muffler and tailpipe assembly with the associated removal of both nuts and gasket. The following step requires removal of 4 bolts that support connection between the catalytic converter and engine bracket and the 3 bolts from the lower heat shield. When repositioning the engine it becomes essential to remove the roll restrictor bolt. Proceed to detach the electrical connections of the Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) and Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) before unbolting the 6 screws that fasten the upper heat shield. You should separate the two retainers and Evaporative Emission canister purge valve heat shield before disconnecting the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector and releasing the tab for accessing the bracket to remove the canister purge valve from its spot. You need to detach the fuel tube from the canister purge valve bracket then take out the 2 bracket securing bolts before setting everything aside. Discard the seven catalytic converter nuts and also discard the bolt used for the engine lifting eye. Install the catalytic converter on the engine while utilizing 7 new nuts which require twofold tightening at 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) intervals. Screw in the engine lifting eyelet and bolt while applying torque of 45 Nm (33 lb-ft). Install the 2 bolts into the EVAP canister purge valve bracket before tightening them to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). After routing the fuel tube through the canister purge valve bracket users should install the valve and connect its electrical connector. The next step should include attaching the EVAP canister purge valve heat shield followed by installing its two retainers while connecting HO2S with CMS electrical connectors. First insert the roll restrictor bolt then tighten it to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft). After that position the lower heat shield and install the 3 bolts with a torque value of 11 Nm (97 lb-in). First install the 2 bolts that fasten the catalytic converter-to-engine bracket and tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) then proceed by installing the 2 catalytic converter bracket-to-engine bracket bolts and torquing them to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The Non-PZEV catalytic converter-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly requires new gasket and 2 new nuts when joining the parts which need a torque setting of 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). The exhaust flexible pipe-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly requires new gasket installation when replacing the 2 mounting nuts that need tightening to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. Place the upper heat shield after removing your exhaust flexible pipe support wrap or splint and fasten it with the 6 bolts while tightening them to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
