2009 Ford Focus Neutral Safety Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Neutral Safety Switch for the 4F27E Transmission on 2009 Ford Focus?
A: The service process for the Transmission Range (TR) Sensor of the 4F27E transmission starts with disconnecting both the TR sensor electrical connector and selector lever cable. You need to grasp the manual control lever because releasing or screwing the manual control lever bolt requires this position to stop rotational forces from reaching the TR sensor or shift mechanism. The removal of both manual control lever and TR sensor bolts will extract the TR sensor. To install the TR sensor while holding the manual control lever maintain the loose or tight status of the manual control lever bolt until you achieve initial bolt torque values. Fasten the bolts on the TR sensor using the Transmission Range Sensor Alignment Tool until they reach 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The manual control lever must be held during 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) tightening of this bolt while avoiding the use of air tools. It is necessary to check that the manual control lever sits in position number 2 as this corresponds to automatic transmission gear D for selector lever cable calibration. The manual control lever needs to face the marks on the TR sensor for position D. Reconnect both the selector lever cable along with the TR sensor electrical connector.
