2009 Ford Fusion Brake Pads Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service front disc brake pads on 2009 Ford Fusion?
A: The service process for front disc brakes begins by using manufacturer-approved brake fluid which is both clean and specified for the system but excludes any drained fluid that would cause damage. The installation of new brake shoes or pads at both ends of an axle must be performed to prevent reduced braking performance. The master cylinder reservoir contains enough brake fluid which needs to be drained down to a point where it reaches half its capacity. Separate the tire and wheel before you detach the brake caliper by removing its guide pin bolts while seeking to avoid caliper or brake hose damage; support the caliper with mechanic's wire. After removing the two brake pad retraction springs you must take out the brake pads alongside brake pad shims and stainless steel shims for examination of wear and contamination. You should disconnect both brake pad slides followed by the removal of their four brake pad slide clips. Start your installation by setting the four brake pad slide clips before applying a worn brake to compress caliper pistons with a C-clamp and protecting the piston along with its boots. Before assembly use the provided grease to apply it onto the brake pad backing plate and shims while following this sequence: first on the brake pad back, then the stainless steel shims located on the inner piston edge and the outer side edge. Position the cut shim with its hole oriented correctly at the bottom side of the inboard pad. After pad shims and stainless steel shims go in order you need to add both brake pad retraction springs. Make sure the caliper guide pin boots fit correctly on the anchor plate extension so contamination is prevented while the boot lip slips underneath the anchor plate extension. Set the caliper in position without distorting the hose before screwing the two guide pin bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft). After adding specified and clean brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir put back the wheel and tire then test brake operation multiple times.
