2009 Ford Mustang Brake Booster Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on those equipped with 5.4L engines on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: The vacuum brake booster servicing needs to start with suction accumulator removal for vehicles with 5.4L engines. In order to drain residual vacuum from the system first disconnect the brake booster check valve from the brake booster. When removing the master cylinder the stoplamp switch along with the speed control deactivator switch need to be extracted with the brake pedal sitting in its resting position to enable proper bracket rotation of the switch plungers; trying to remove them with extended plungers presents a risk of breaking the components. The removal process also includes the speed control deactivator switch whenever it exists. To start remove the extra parts including self-locking pin cover and self-locking pin and booster rod pin before unfastening the four brake booster nuts which must receive a torque specification of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) upon reinstallation. The procedure ends by removing the brake booster assembly while keeping both the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch with their booster push rod attached to the brake pedal when it rests at the right position to prevent incorrect adjustment or damage. Completely install the parts by following the removal process in the reverse order.
