2008 Ford Mustang Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster equipped with 5.4L engines on 2008 Ford Mustang?
A: The first step for servicing vacuum brake boosters installed on 5.4L engine vehicles starts by taking off the suction accumulator. The service starts by emptying residual vacuum from the brake booster by disconnecting the brake booster check valve from its position on the brake booster. The stoplamp switch along with the speed control deactivator switch should be removed with the brake pedal at the at-rest position while the plungers remain compressed to protect them from breaking. Apart from other components take off the speed control deactivator switch if your vehicle has it. The service must start by removing the booster rod pin with the self-locking pin followed by the self-locking pin cover. The service then moves on to the removal of the four brake booster nuts which require torque to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) for their installation. The brake booster assembly removal process requires the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch to be installed on the brake pedal at its resting point while the booster push rod connects to the brake pedal to avoid incorrect adjustments which could result in damage. The installation ends when you execute the reverse steps of removal.
