Service the thermostat on a 4.0L SOHC motor requires draining the cooling system first. Before working on these components you need to open the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe and the Throttle Body (TB). Following that remove the three thermostat housing bolts from the top and simply discard the thermostat O-ring seal and housing. The new thermostat installation must include tightening bolts to reaching a torque specification of 10 Nm (89 lb-in). You should install the new thermostat while using a new O-ring seal that receives engine coolant lubrication. Complete the operation by performing a cooling system fill-up followed by bleeding.
