2009 Ford Mustang Water Pump Parts Q&A
Q: How to service the water pump on a 4.0L SOHC engine on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: Engine coolant drainage is the first step to service the coolant pump of a 4.0L SOHC engine. Start by disconnecting the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe then loosen the four coolant pump pulley bolts which must be tightened to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling them. The first step involves removing the accessory drive belt before removing both the four coolant pump pulley bolts together with the coolant pump pulley. You should disconnect and place aside the thermostat housing-to-coolant pump hose and the heater hose and radiator-to-coolant pump hose. The twelve coolant pump bolts must be removed before extracting the coolant pump while discarding the aged gasket. The sealing surfaces need cleaning with metal surface prep and then scraping with a plastic or wooden tool. Install the new coolant pump by adding a new gasket followed by bolt tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). To finish the installation reverse all steps of removal then perform a cooling system fill-up followed by a bleed procedure.
