2009 Ford Mustang Throttle Position Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Throttle Position Sensor on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: Start the service and repair of the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor by detaching the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. For every type of engine disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector. It is essential to prevent direct heat exposure to the TP sensor along with plastic parts because damage can occur when ETB temperatures rise above 120 °C (248°F). A suitable heat gun directed at the top of the ETB should be used to warm the top TP sensor bolt ear to 55 °C (130 °F) during a 3-minute process while maintaining a 1,100-watt heat gun position 25.4 mm (1 inch) away from the ETB. Use an infrared or digital temperature laser to check the ear temperature of the top bolt on the TP sensor throughout this installation process. Begin by fastening the removal of the most distant bolt from the heating source followed by the remaining bolt and then discard both pieces. Next discard the TP sensor after removing it. The radial locator tab of the new TP sensor must match the radial locator hole located on the ETB. Hand tools must be used to secure the two new bolts with a torque setting to 3 Nm (27 lb-in). Connect the electrical connector of the TP sensor before reattaching the ACL outlet pipe.
