2009 Ford Taurus X Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Knock Sensor (KS) on 2009 Ford Taurus X?
A: Early built vehicles prior to May 18, 2009 use Motorcraft® Premium Gold Engine Coolant whereas vehicles built later than this date use Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant; these two types must not be mixed as it will degrade corrosion protection and can damage engine components and cooling system components. The repair starts with removing the thermostat housing next to the removal of the lower intake manifold and coolant tube before discarding the O-ring seal. Start by disconnecting the KS electrical connector then remove the two securing bolts of the KS. Install the new KS by tightening bolts to 20 Nm (177 lb-in) and apply engine coolant to the O-ring seal before you finish installation by removing hardware in reverse order.
