2009 Lincoln MKS Camshaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Camshaft Step-by-Step on 2009 Lincoln MKS?
A: The vehicle must be placed in neutral position on a hoist for lateral removal or replacement of the camshaft. Empty the pressure from the fuel system after recovering the A/C system then drain the cooling system. Start the process by removing the accessory drive belt alongside the power steering belt then moving on to disconnect the LH and RH halfshafts. Begin by disconnecting the hose leading from the left front subframe power steering cooler and draining all fluid. Remove the degas bottle and engine air cleaner (ACL) along with the ACL outlet pipe and detach the battery wiring harness fasteners which are mounted on the battery tray. The engine wiring harness electrical connector along with the power feed wire from the positive battery terminal needs removal as well as the ground cable detachment from the negative terminal. Disconnect the vacuum hose together with the evaporative emission (EVAP) tube from the upper intake manifold before detaching the EVAP tube retainer. The maintenance procedure requires removal of the upper and lower radiator hoses together with one heater hose from the thermostat housing and the transaxle control cable from both the control lever and shift cable bracket. Detach the engine block heater wiring harness when it is present. To disconnect the upper A/C tube from the condenser, remove its nut then discard any needed O-ring seals. The connector from the LH valve cover should be removed while disconnecting both the fuel supply tube and the engine wiring harness electrical connectors. Start the engine mount bracket and RH valve cover removal by taking out their wiring harness retainer systems followed by extraction of ground cable and oil level indicator. The hose attached to the power steering reservoir requires removal at this point along with a disconnect of the transaxle control electrical connector. The wire harness retainer should be detached from the transaxle stud bolt. A steering wheel holding device allows maintenance of steering wheel alignment before removing the bolt to disconnect steering column shaft from the steering gear. Discard the bolt afterward. The exhaust hanger requires separation after removing the Y-pipe-to-catalytic converter nuts and the Y-pipe flange nuts while discarding both gaskets and nuts. Equipments with AWD need driveshaft index marking followed by bolt removal. Support the driveshaft with mechanic's wire during replacement. Empty out the engine oil through the drain plug before installing the plug along with the replacement of an spent engine oil filter. The technician should remove the power steering pressure (PSP) tube bracket-to-steering gear bolt before disconnecting the PSP tube from the steering gear while discarding the O-ring seal. Follow this operation by the engine roll restrictor-to-transaxle bolts and then disconnect the upper stabilizer link nuts and tie-rod end nuts which will free the tie-rod ends from the wheel knuckles. Position the powertrain lift under the vehicle subframe assembly and remove the bracket-to-body bolts followed by front and rear subframe bolts to lower the subframe assembly from its position. The technician should remove first the bracket studs from the RH halfshaft support bracket before taking out the bracket itself and disassembling the secondary latches from transmission fluid cooler tubes. The transmission cooler tube disconnect tool lets workers remove tubes from the thermal bypass valve while they position a wood block beneath the transaxle. Then they can install the powertrain lift and universal adapter brackets. First remove the transaxle support insulator through bolt alongside its attaching nut then detach the bolt as well as three nuts and the transaxle support insulator bracket before removing the nut alongside the bolt and engine mount brace.
