2009 Lincoln Town Car A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC System on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Start the suction accumulator service work by positioning the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear on a hoist. Recover all refrigerant from the system before disconnecting the outlet fitting of the suction accumulator then discard the O-ring seals. After disconnecting the suction accumulator inlet fitting users must discard its O-ring seals. The A/C cycling switch electrical connector needs disconnecting before removing three suction accumulator bolts that should be tightened to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) upon reinstalling. The procedure for installation requires reversing the removal steps and new O-ring seals followed by the correct amount of clean PAG oil during refrigerant system lubrication. As a final step you should evacuate the system after which you need to perform a leak test and then perform the system's refrigerant charge. Physical signs of failure or shell damage in an A/C compressor will require installation of a new suction accumulator however such installation is unnecessary when only one hour of refrigerant system pressure equalization causes moisture contamination. Installation of a new suction accumulator should be avoided when the refrigerant system maintains above zero pressure.
