2009 Lincoln Town Car Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How should one safely service the fuel rail and what steps are involved in the process on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Safety measures require avoidance of smoking and open flames when servicing the fuel rail because highly flammable mixtures exist during operation. All fuel tubes need to be disconnected by first reducing pressure on the fuel system for preventing fuel spray and the battery ground cable must be disconnected before any work on the EVAP system or fuel components. Clear out all residual fuel material from the engine area since it can result in ignition during operational activities. The first step requires placing the vehicle on a hoist in NEUTRAL position before releasing the fuel system pressure in order to disconnect the battery ground cable. The first step involves taking off the fuel supply tube from the fuel rail and removing the Throttle Body and disconnecting the EGR system module tube. The brake booster vacuum hose connected to the TB spacer requires release of the clamp to access for removal while the EVAP vapor tube and the crankcase ventilation tube should be detached from the TB spacer. The technicians must detach the vacuum hose from the TB spacer and free the wire harness retainer from the crash bracket before loosening the crash bracket bolts. These bolts should be torqued to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) upon reinstalling the hardware. first disconnect all eight fuel injector electrical connectors then proceed to remove the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum hose along with its electrical connector and finally unplug the EGR module vacuum and electrical connectors. The engine technician should remove intake manifold shield bolts then tighten them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) before removing four fuel rail bolts that require 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque upon securing. The assembly of fuel rail and fuel injectors along with its O-ring seals must be discarded because those seals represent fuel-resistant material that cannot be reutilized. The installation ends by following the removal steps in reverse order while applying engine oil to new fuel injector O-ring seals for both upper and lower positions before final installation.
