2009 Mercury Mariner Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2009 Mercury Mariner?
A: A service of the intake manifold should start with putting the vehicle in neutral position while it rests on a hoist. The first step requires disconnection of the vacuum supply hose from its fitting after depressing the quick release locking ring and removing the hose properly. Start by disconnecting the fuel vapor return hose from the intake manifold and then unplug the electrical connectors to the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and Evaporative Emission canister purge valve alongside the electronic throttle control and Knock Sensor hardware. Always detaching the pin-type wire harness retainer from the KS sensor. Detach the heater hose pin-type retainer along with all wiring harness pin-type retainers from the intake manifold where the wiring harness will remain positioned aside. After disconnecting the Air Cleaner outlet pipe from the Throttle Body by loosening its clamp tighten it to 4 Nm (35 lb-in) before reinstalling. First remove the lower intake manifold bolt then tighten it to 18 Nm (159 lb-in) before proceeding to take out six bolts for clearing the way to the crankcase vent oil separator tube and EGR tube that should be tightened to 18 Nm (159 lb-in) during reinstallation. To remove the crankcase vent oil separator tube from the intake manifold disconnect its two tabs by squeezing them before tightening the EGR tube to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) torque. Check the intake manifold for debris after removing it along with its gaskets while inspecting for metallic particles if engine replacement due to upper engine failure occurred. Install a new intake manifold to prevent damage to the engine system. End the procedure by following the removal steps backward and checking for new intake manifold gasket installation if required.
