How to service and repair the muffler and tailpipe on Ford Edge?

The first step for muffler and tailpipe service or repair requires positioning the vehicle in NEUTRAL while it remains on a hoist. The Torca(R) clamp needs removal before you can support the muffler and tailpipe with a proper jackstand. Carefully remove the four muffler and tailpipe isolators from the vehicle by using soapy water because damaging or tearing them must be avoided. The muffler and tailpipe need to be detached from their connection to the exhaust flexible pipe before being removed. The installation process should follow the removal instructions but check the integrity of torn or damaged isolators before reinstallation. After the engine starts you should examine exhaust leaks for any presence. The isolators should never receive oil or grease-based lubricants because these substances will degrade rubber material which could make the exhaust hanger isolator disengage from the exhaust hanger bracket when a vehicle operates.
