How to Remove and Replace the Front Door Latch Assembly on Ford Escape?

The front door latch replacement procedure requires a fully raised position of the door glass before beginning. Post the removal of the front door trim panel place the water shield aside. You should then uninstall the reinforcement system that controls the exterior front door handle. Install the three new door bolts after discarding them while torquing to a value of 12 Nm (106 lb-in). The front door latch electrical connector needs disconnecting before pulling the front door latch forward to take it out alongside the door lock actuating rod and the interior door handle actuating cable. The door lock actuating rod and interior door handle actuating cable should be detached only if necessary. After completing the installment run the opposite process of removal steps while applying lubrication to both front door latch parts against the striker surfaces.

Service and repair of the front door latch starts with removing the exterior front door handle followed by loosening the exterior door handle reinforcement screw to free itself. The next step requires you to free the interior door handle clip before removing the interior handle. The cable conduit and door latch cable require detachment before you remove and discard the three door latch bolts while tightening the installation bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The door latch electrical connector requires disconnection before sliding out the door latch assembly toward the vehicle front area. After installation the procedure needs to be reversed while applying lubrication to the door latch as well as the striker surfaces.
