How to service the thermostat housing on Ford Escort?

The engine coolant service requires draining it below the water thermostat. The technician should disconnect the water temperature sensor connector followed by Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector and ignition coil connector. The upper radiator hose should be separated from the thermostat housing. The two bolts and securing nut must be taken out from the thermostat housing. The new thermostat housing installation requires complete removal of gasket material from all surfaces before performing the steps in reverse order. The procedure following installation demands a cooling system refill and engine start-up for leak detection of all cooling components. After the water thermostat opens due to engine temperature rise stop the engine and fill the coolant recovery reservoir to keep the cold fill level at minimum.
