The gasket mating surfaces of both rear axle and differential housing cover need cleaning before applying a new continuous bead of Clear Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent material per Ford specifications ESB-M4G92-A to the differential housing cover. When using silicone sealant on the differential housing cover it should be installed right after application within 15 minutes but new sealant needs to be applied if the cover takes longer. Prior to lubricant addition you should wait for at least 1 hour after silicone sealant application to enable proper curing of the silicone. The differential housing cover bolts should be tightened before adding specified lubricant through the filler port then installing the plug.
