Ford Excursion Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front wheel bearing and hub on Ford Excursion?
A: Begin the front wheel bearing and hub services and repairs on F-250, F-350, and Excursion vehicles by lifting the vehicle while supporting it and uninstalling both front wheel and tire assemblies. The service requires removal of the front disc Brake Caliper and rotor then placement of the caliper aside. Begin by removing the hub cap from the hub assembly then proceed to remove the cotter pin, adjusting nut together with the flat washer. Begin spindle and nut thread check for future assembly before extracting the outer bearing cone assembly with its roller component to draw out the hub assembly from the spindle. A slide hammer and bearing seal remover should be used with great care for extracting the inner bearing cone and bearing seal without harming the bearing cage. Begin by removing all lubricant from bearings and hub and axle spindle and inspect for damage before replacing both parts in sets since damaged bearings or cups mandate immediate replacement. The installation of inner and outer bearing cups into the hub should be done through the use of a bearing cup driver tool. Verify the correct seating because a 0.38 mm (0.0015 inch) feeler gauge should not fit between the cup section and Wheel Hub seat. First normalize the spindle shoulder and seal bore surface by removing burrs and scratching them with emery cloth. Use lithium-based wheel bearing grease from Motorcraft Premium Long-Life Grease XG-I-C or -K or an equivalent product matching Ford specification ESA-MIC75-B to fill the hub space until the grease surface meets both bearing cups inside diameters. Safely position the hub body on the spindle before setting the inner bearing cone along with rollers in the cup while using the seal replacer tool to correctly position and lubricate the wheel bearing hub seal. When the hub assembly is installed workers should add the outer bearing cone with rollers and flat washer, and final adjusting nut according to specified standards. The procedure ends with reinstalling hub cap followed by front disc brake caliper, rotor, front wheel and tire assemblies. Finish by lowering the vehicle as the last step.
