A proper approach to servicing or repairing the 4.0L SOHC accelerator cable and bracket starts with removing the accelerator cable from the rubber plunger followed by positioning the rubber plunger rearward to release the cable from the accelerator pedal assembly. The accelerator cable requires moving out from the throttle body by disconnection. Afterwards use the tabs to extract it away from the bracket before activating the unlock position on the accelerator cable boot to completely remove the cable. Roll the rubber plunger backward while undoing the installation process.
