Start the fuel tank strap service and repair operations by placing Explorer Sport Trac and Explorer/Mountaineer vehicles in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Your first step should be to remove the fuel tank skid plate nut when present then each of the four bolts as well as the fuel tank skid plate itself before securing the skid plate bolts at 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque. Next, remove the driveshaft. A suitable jack should be used to support the fuel tank while you remove the bolt securing the fuel tank rear support strap that requires 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque when reinstalled. Tighten the part with the fuel tank front support strap with a torque of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) when completing the installation. The installation process ends with performing the removal steps in reverse order.
