Begin the fuel tank strap repair process only when the vehicle remains in NEUTRAL mode and hangs on a hoist. Take necessary precautions by staying away from smoking or using lighted tobacco and open flames because fuel-related parts contain highly flammable blends. Shutter the driving gear after setting the vehicle on a hoist while in NEUTRAL position then remove four bolts along with a nut and fuel tank skid plate. Tighten skid plate bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) when replacing the components. The Explorer and Mountaineer require driveshaft removal during this process. A suitable jack should be used for supporting the fuel tank before removing the bolt from the rear support strap then tighten the bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) during reinstallation. After nut removal of the front support strap proceed with tightening the strap to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) before replacement. The installation process ends with performing the reverse of removal steps.
